Sierra do Candán - SILLEDA

    This area is known for its scrubland and mid-mountain woodlands of Galicia, composed of oak (Quercusrobur), Pyrenean oak (Quercuspyrenaica), birch (Betulaalba) and rowan (Sorbusaucuparia).

    The shaded areas are characterized by the presence of bilberry (Vacciniummyrtillus).

    It is a strategic geographical position in contact with the mid-mountain areas of Pontevedra and Ourense it is undoubtedly anarea of interest for wildlife conservation.

    Among the wildlife highlights is the presence of wild cat (Felixsilvestris), which has in these forests one of its last refuges, roe deer (Capreoluscapreolus) and wild boar (Susscarofa). Also present is the Galician hare (Lepusgranatensis Gallaecia) which is a subspecies of the Iberian hare, limited to some mountains in the province of Pontevedra, where hunting is forbidden, and the endangered wolf (Canis lupus) that survives in this area.

    We have to mention the birds of prey such as the Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) and the owl (Bubo bubo) which we associate with this type of craggy terrain and which in Galicia counts with very few breeding pairs especially the latter.

    It is located in the southern part of Silleda Council, within the parish of Parada, sharing extension with the municipalities of Forcarei and Lalín and the neighbouring councils of Beariz and O Irixo which belong to the province of Ourense.

    Hiking

    The walk down from the highest peak to the abandoned village of Grobas will take you through virgin forest and is an experience that should not be missed, an adventure where you are in contact with nature at its purest.
